A life written in magic runes

Today my youngest child reaches her 16th birthday: Gudrun.

It's still hard to accept that all my babies are officially adults. To a mother (and to a father) sons and daughters remain children forever. But there comes a time when we must let them fly their own flights.

Most of my children are named after runes, the mysterious alphabet of the ancient nordic people. Sigrunn, the rune of victory. Heidrun, the rune of the sky. Dagrun, the rune of day. And Gudrun, the rune of god. It's true Sigrunn and Heidrun didn't come from my womb but I've always loved them as if they did. And of course Yngve and Hinata. For more than 20 years I've had at least one child to care for. You could say my life was written around these little runes.

Now that my youngest is officially an adult, you might think I don't have a child to care for... but like I said before, to a mother every son and daughter remains a child forever, and forever they need our care. It doesn't matter which flights they take, I'll always be here for them.
