That week felt like drifting in a dream,

floating until the sudden fall. When Johnny finally came back to himself, he was standing beside Stephanie in the Sé Cathedral. She was beautiful in black, tense but hiding it well — just like he did. Having grown up mostly together, he recognized the signs: the crease between her brows, the effort to keep steady.

“Are you okay?” he asked softly as they sat on the bench near the entrance. What he really wanted to know was if she’d given up.

She gave him a distant look and forced a smile.
“I’m fine… but waiting for forever is really hard.”
She laughed nervously.

Johnny gently squeezed her hands. He understood too well. He’d bet on forever once — only for it to end too soon, too suddenly. Now he feared she might walk away before theirs had even begun.

He leaned closer as if to share a secret, and Stephanie’s body followed naturally.
“It’s all a matter of perspective,” he whispered. “For me, forever started the moment you grabbed me.”
She smiled — a little lie, harmless and sweet.

Their fingers intertwined, the cold fading away. Stephanie’s gaze drifted to the church doors, and Johnny saw Denise watching quietly from behind the stained glass.

They rose together, eyes meeting once more. Johnny knew then — they’d come too far to turn back.

The ceremony was simple and private. Denise spoke softly but clearly:
“Sometimes, love is just not letting go, even when everything falls apart.”
Stephanie squeezed his hand tighter.

He smiled shyly, lifting her veil with care. He kissed her forehead first, then her lips. He caught Denise’s faint smile and winked; she finally smiled back.

Still basking in the quiet joy, the next couple burst in early, vibrant and passionate. They laughed, joining the celebration. Stephanie caught the bride’s bouquet and smiled — carefree and wide, for the first time that day.

Shaking the bouquet triumphantly, she looked at Johnny, sharing her joy.
And in that moment, he knew: forever had truly begun.
