The Anti-Bonnie

"Anyway, how's your love life?" his sister had asked, deflecting from talk of her own messy love life. The huge grin on his face as soon as she asked was pretty much an instant answer.

"Oh me and my BOYFRIEND are doing great. Have you met my BOYFRIEND?"

Bonnie rolled her eyes and sighed. "I'm pretty sure I knew Gael before you did, dummy, I saw him first."

Maxie grinned back at her again. "Oh, I know, I just like saying BOYFRIEND. Loudly. So everyone knows. Isn't he a cutie?"

He reached into his pocket, producing his phone and leaning in to show her some photos of the two of them.

"This is us rehearsing, we have so much fun! Just bashing away, practicing dance moves, having tickle contests, you know, sensible stuff! And look!" he added, pulling something else out of his other pocket, handing it over to Bonnie.

"A stone?"

"A special stone! I picked it up the other day when we went for a break by the river. I'm going to write something on it, and give it to him. Do you think he'll like it?"

"What will you write?"

A look of seriousness briefly flashed across his face. "I'm not sure yet, B. Something... meaningful. But the words haven't appeared in my mind yet. You know that thing where you've got a lot you want to say, but you can't think how to put it, and everything you come up with just sounds really trite and stupid?"

"Can't relate, no", she smirked.

"Bloody smarty-pants! Well, I'm working on it. I'll come up with something, you'll see..."

"Gael will see, leave me out of your lovey-dovey shenanigans!" she protested.

"And then I'll come and tell you alllll about it!" he grinned, squeezing her hand affectionately.
