London always finds a way of reminding you who you are. The streets all hum the same songs, the sky still looks like it’s about to weep, and somewhere between the noise and the nostalgia, I realise how much has changed, and how much hasn’t.
Cherry and I came back home yesterday. Our anniversary. Another year since that mad, perfect day where she walked toward me down Westminster Abbey aisle, and I forgot how to breathe. Only this time, we had someone new with us, our boy, William Levi. His first trip home. His first time in the city that made us.
There’s a poetry in that.
The same rain that soaked us on our wedding night was back today, quieter, almost gentle, like it knew. Cherry held William close to her coat, and I swear, for a moment, London itself stopped to watch them. The girl I married, and the little life we made together. I’ve played a thousand gigs, stood under brighter lights, but nothing comes close to that sight.
We wandered through old haunts, the cafes that still smell of burnt toast and broken dreams, the pubs where I once sang her name until dawn. We didn’t say much. We didn’t need to. The city spoke for us. Every corner whispered a memory, every puddle reflected a piece of who we used to be.
Cherry laughed at Williams Grin. He’s already got my stare, that quiet, brooding sort that says too much without saying anything at all.
Last night we watched the sun drown behind the skyline as a family , the same skyline that watched us fall in love, fight the odds, and somehow make it back hre, stronger, softer, just us.
I used to think London belonged to me.
Now I know I belong to them.
