The Fear

Caleb had always lived life on his own terms—fast, intense, and without much thought for the future. But when he heard the words “It’s a girl” out loud, reality hit him harder than any game he’d ever played. He was going to be a father. A girl dad.

The thought thrilled him—and terrified him. He had no idea what it truly meant to raise a daughter, but he knew one thing: everything was about to change. His choices, his priorities, the way he carried himself. He had to be better, not just for himself, but for her.

At least he and Klea had done one thing right—they had asked Jason and Lili to be their daughter’s godparents. If anyone could help guide them through the chaos of parenthood, it was them. Caleb didn’t often admit when he needed support, but this was different. This was the biggest responsibility of his life.

He had always been good with kids in passing—after tough games, when young fans ran up to him, he could always make them laugh, pose for a silly picture, ruffle their hair like he’d known them forever. But this was his own child. His little girl.

Would he know how to hold her right? How to calm her when she cried? Would she see him as someone to run to or someone too caught up in his own world to notice her?

That question lingered in his mind, heavy and relentless. For the first time in a long time, Caleb felt truly unprepared. But one thing was certain—he would do whatever it took to be the father his daughter deserved.
