New Friend

A few days after my first successful spell, I met him — Thomas.👦🏻 He was sitting in the darkest corner of the library, surrounded by piles of books. I was searching for information about the Restricted Section, pretending to study, when he looked up from his notes and said quietly, "You’re not going to find it that way".

Before I could answer, he reached under the table and traced a quick rune in the air. One of the books on the top shelf gave a faint shiver — and opened itself. Pages fluttered until they stopped at a section about hidden rooms and sealed archives.
"Sometimes the library hides what it doesn’t want you to read,” he said with a grin. “You just have to ask politely".

Since that night, we’ve been meeting there every evening. He was clever, sarcastic, and somehow always knew when the caretaker was coming. One night, I told him about my Disillusionment Charm. Instead of laughing, he grinned and said, "Perfect. I know a door that doesn’t like to stay locked".

So we planned it. And gathered our courage to go. The castle was colder than I expected — every creak sounded like it would wake the portraits. I cast the charm, feeling the shimmer slide across my skin, and he did the same, though his spell flickered like moonlight. Together, we moved silently through the corridor with our hearts racing, barely breathing.

At the last corner, a ghost floated by — not Selwynne this time, but the Bloody Baron himself. We froze. For a heartbeat, I thought he could see us. Then, without a word, he drifted past, trailing the cold air of his presence.

Thomas squeezed my wrist, eyes gleaming in the dim light. "Now or never", he whispered.
And with that, we slipped through the door of the Restricted Section.🐍
