From a working class family, his father was prone to violent bursts of anger, until he just walked out when Ruff was 14. He dropped out of school and started working when he was 16 to help out his mother at home. After a couple of years taking any jobs he could get, he settled as a bartender in a pub in North London, around the corner from his shabby flat, where he also sings on Saturday nights. Ruff is passionate about playing the guitar and singing, but scoffs sarcastically at anyone that suggests he could make a living out of it and claims to be content with just playing at the pub. Generally more on the quiet, contemplative side, he can get very talkative and joyful after a handful of pints. If asked, he'll say that he is happy with the life he has, but in reality, he just doesn't really know what he wants out of life.
