some roads don’t need names

I know her from forever.. though calling her just a friend feels like underselling the story. anyway she’s got always that calm but chaotic vibe, the kind that makes you wanna follow her just to see what kind of trouble she gets into next. she’s been talking about wanting to go on some kind of adventure together. adventure as in what, exactly? when she says adventure, I half expect it to mean a flight to somewhere warm, a suitcase full of outfits she’ll never actually wear, questionable cocktails and a playlist that could start a whole summer. but no, this time she meant the real deal. the whole back-to-basics thing. the kind of adventure that smells like trees, not tequila. thing is, I’m not exactly that kind of guy. I don’t own hiking boots and I don’t do well with anything that doesn’t come with a Wi-Fi signal. and honestly, she’s not that kind of explorer either. unless the wilderness includes a bikini, a tan line, and a drink with a paper umbrella. still, here we are, talking about it like we actually might do it. maybe it’s just an excuse. that need to shake things up after a bad day, or to see what happens when it’s just the two of us and no city lights to hide behind. so this morning i’ve thought that maybe it’s the right time to give it a shot. which probably means digging through my closet, realizing I own nothing that survives outside the city and ending up buying something that says “I hike sometimes” when I absolutely don’t. so let’s try to pretend I know what I’m doing and who knows, maybe this time, getting lost won’t sound so bad.
