[wmu] tour diary: aka life lately
writing my new album wasn't just a reminder that it's okay to slow down. it was a love letter to the place that embraced me when everything felt messy. tokyo was the epicenter of it all. the way this city welcomed my chaos made me realize something i'd never truly felt before: maybe home isn't an address. maybe it's the stage, the sound, the people singing along with me.
i grew up feeling misunderstood, dreaming that my home was the world. and now, it feels like the world has finally chosen me back. this tour showed me that my awkwardness can be contagious, beautiful, cathartic. and the credit is all yours — the fans who embraced my shift from modern rock to pop music with so much love.
i've seen it all.
to the drag queens in brazil who burned bras outside my hotel while singing my songs, the college boys in toronto with ''chloe bee is sexy'' painted across their chests, and the lovely little girls in melbourne who dressed like me (you're the reason i haven't given up on short bangs) — you all have a permanent place in my heart.
music connects us. so many different people feeling the same thing at the same time. that's so fucking beautiful. i'd forgotten how powerful that could be. that realization was the best birthday gift i could've received.
thank you — and to my boyfriend too, who somehow manages to be so present even between crypt visits and suspicious injections. you all gave this birthday girl the best new year's eve she could've asked for.
