maddening.
She'd tried everything, honestly. Kept her distance, built walls so thick they practically had their own zip code, and stuck to her game plan. No feelings, no attachments, no strings.
Easy. She'd done it a million times. A safe, comfortable, unfeeling numbness. She'd mastered it. Or so she thought, until him, and... well, there goes the whole plan.
Now, whether it was the place, the situation, or the person, she couldn't tell. But, whenever he was around, it was like she was a spectator in her own life.
Look at her, failing miserably at staying detached. She'd gone from drifting through life to... whatever this was. And, it was maddening.
But, she didn't even want it to stop. She was caught somewhere between pushing him away and hoping he'd stay. She'd thrown herself into her own mess, holding the exit open with one hand, while hoping he'd never use it. Somehow, wanting him to stay there with her.
There she was, practically tripping over herself. It was absurd. And terrifying. And... thrilling. Oh, she loved
thrilling.Was she mad? Truly, utterly mad? Quite possibly.
Madness, plain and simple.
