at the beginning he had felt as if he had all of the responsibilities in the world because he could not imagine what it was like to be calisto - to suddenly have his vision stolen from him. the rage that jace had felt had surely been palpable. vengeance was always seen as a bad thing, but to him, it was the only way for him to selfishly find peace. he had found that peace when the life had left the faces of that man's colleagues as he had killed them one by one.
admittedly, calisto's loss of sight had felt like a loss to jace, too. the boy would never get to tease him about his bedhead or whenever he put on a wrinkled shirt. he wouldn't get to make fun of the silly and awkward ways that jace danced, or how he looked when he was clumsily cooking. jace would never get to leave him handwritten notes, either.
but with time, they both adapted. he left voice notes whenever he had something to say, but was unable to be with calisto in that moment. jace became cal's eyes, often describing in low tones their surroundings when they were out together. he'd guide cali's hands over soft flower petals or over silky clothes whenever they went shopping. he made sure that his husband could picture everything in his mind's eye as best he could.
jace had never been an expert with words and even worse, he had never felt like a good partner.
but he did his best, trying to improve his vocabulary and descriptive words. and as calisto felt more comfortable in the world, jace grew with him. challenges became opportunities. they were closer than ever before and jace would always be there, right by his husband's side.
