Normalize disliking people and avoiding them without starting a conflict and insisting that they’re bad people. You don’t actually need to be able to call someone toxic and abusive in order to justify that you’re not vibing with them.
Look, I know I can be toxic. I admit I’m kind of a mess sometimes. My temper flares too fast, and I’ve got a habit of shutting people out when I’m done. My sarcasm can cut too deep, and I’ve got a knack for pushing people away when I feel cornered. I know I can be toxic, but I’m trying to own it and do better. I’m starting to see I don’t have to throw shade or start a fight to walk away from someone I’m not feeling. I’m learning I don’t need to demonize others to justify keeping my distance. It’s okay if we just don’t vibe; I’m learning to leave it at that and move on without making it a whole thing, I mean sometimes it’s just a bad fit, and I’m okay with quietly stepping back.
