Velvet Hardy, you have worked so hard, my love. And no, I didn’t make you heart-shaped chicken nugget pasta, because we were out of tomatoes, and the nearest store is two miles away, and by the time I got dressed and walked there, it would’ve been closed. This is not to say that you don’t deserve your heart-shaped chicken nugget pasta; you deserve those, the star-shaped ones too, and even the ones in the shape of every letter of your name.
V for Very much mine, because that’s what my heart says every single time you’re near. E for Everything, because that’s what you somehow became to me. L for Lust, because you raise my temperature faster than any stove in Jabba Buffet ever could. V for Vacation, because who needs Rio when I have you, and the best part is I don’t even need to pack a swimsuit. E for Employee of the Century, because the way you impressed your boss when he said, “That Velvet Hardy is at it again,” honestly made my whole day. I’m so proud of you, baby, he knows your name. T for my name, because somehow my life folds around you, beginning, middle, end.
But there isn’t much in the fridge, and you deserve more than whatever I can pull from almost-empty shelves. You deserve things made with real care, small comforts that brighten the room before you even taste them. And honestly, you deserve better than my poorly executed attempts at poetry and the last-minute ideas I throw together for every birthday or Valentine’s Day. You deserve a life where even the simple things carry love, where every small gesture, every small moment, ends up right there on your plate. But since the fancy version isn’t happening tonight, I’ll come up with something else instead.
