A Little Tomato
Lydia couldn't stop smiling as she stepped into her mother's old house, now Lili's new one. Her sister had gone all out to throw a party for her and Archie, and it was nothing like she had imagined. She'd expected something small, a few close friends and family, maybe some snacks. Instead, she found herself surrounded by twinkling lights, lush flowers in every corner, a huge cake in the garden. And of course, there was a bar trolley for the guests, even though Lydia wasn't drinking.
She caught Archie grinning nearby, his usual laid-back self but clearly as surprised as she was. Lydia chuckled softly, already imagining the jokes Lili would crack about them being too mushroom over the whole thing.
As the night went on, Lydia couldn't help but notice how much love surrounded her. Guests were mingling. Friends and family couldn't resist coming over to pat it or feel the tiny kicks. Lydia herself marveled at how their baby was already stealing the show. She glanced down, yes, she could still see her feet, though just barely.
Then Lili appeared, carrying a massive box with a mischievous glint in her eye. Lydia instinctively reached for Archie's hand as they made their way to the center of the crowd.
Lili cleared her throat "Okay, so... the doctor may or may not have been threatened by me, but let's say it was worth it. I hear some of you have placed bets, and rumor has it, the little football players were leading the stats. But let’s see if the scoreboard surprises you." She smirked, tossing a playful look at Lydia and Archie.
Lydia held Archie's hand as the crowd counted down. "Three… two… one!"
Lydia and Archie opened the box, and a flurry of pink balloons floated into the sky. Lydia's jaw dropped as happy tears filled her eyes. She didn't even hesitate, she jumped into Archie's arms, hugging him tight as she squealed, "Our little tomato is a girl! SHE IS A GIRL!"
