if the perfect man didn't exist, then how could she explain Lou?

in all reality, they barely had time to talk to each other, but they still somehow existed in the same world through pictures, occasional video calls, and text messages. Lou was often on the job piloting planes, but Rosie, too, was busy settling into her classes. she taught three different classes of students at different ages, and each age group presented her with different challenges.

she was busy just trying to figure everything out, but whenever Lou actually had time - even when it was limited - she would stop everything she was doing to talk with him. she found herself wanting to talk to him more and more and so she would send him things whenever she thought of him: pictures of the inside of her classroom, drawings Sage had done, different dishes she had made.

at first it had been here and there, maybe once or twice a week because she had been afraid to bother him. then, as her feelings began to evolve, she started to send him messages more frequently, hoping that he didn't mind but feeling bold enough to try anyway. they never really had the time. their time zones often clashed and they missed each other, but she still felt hopeful.

when he asked about New Year's Eve, she didn't hesitate to agree to spend it with him. Sage was more than happy, too. her little boy asked about Lou from time to time, just because he had made an impression on him, too. plus, Lou had offered to get him souvenirs and little trinkets from his travels and Rosie's son loved gifts.

on December 31st, she cleaned their home as best she could - trying to give the impression that she had her life fully together even when she rarely ever did.

when she heard him at the door, Rosie opened it - giving him the biggest smile - and let him inside.

she hoped to make that night memorable. a new year meant new beginnings, didn't it?
