The Interview

“And now we welcome our guest this afternoon, Amalia Stano. The one and only lead singer of Hayatim.”
Another radio station, another afternoon. Amalia had a new job, promoting her next set of songs. It had been long days in the studio, but it was finally falling together - at least that was what she believed.

A bit of small talk before the real questions. “So, who is this Mary. Truly? Does she exist?”
”Yeah, she does.” Why did her swedish accent suddenly become so much more apparent? “She is my mother.”
“Really? Wow. She must be proud over such a tribune!”
“I don’t know about that…”
”She hasn't heard the songs yet?”
“No one has, I’m just half way through writing and recording… and I will touch subjects my mother won't really approve of.”
“Perhaps we can expect drama?”
”Well… don’t hold your breath, she might never even listen to it.”

“Amalia, missä on rahat?”
She had hidden behind the curtains while her mother almost turned their apartment upside down. Her mother was sober - and that was a problem. That she had no money on her accounts or that rent was due or that they had no food, just inconvenient. Main problem was that her mother, Marja Alexandersson, was sober.

“Missä on säästöpossu?”
Amalia could hear that her mother found her piggy bank. Her pink piggy bank that her father had given her before he left them. Her mother was yelling in Finish about not being able to open the piggy bank because she couldn't find the key. The pink piggy bank was soon broken into two pieces and her mother could happily take the small saving Amalia had.

“När jag blir stor ska jag flytta långt härifrån.” Amalia whispered to herself when the door closed behind her mother. “Långt, långt härifrån. Långt från mamma.”
