When they arrived at the park, it was full of families and kids running around with hats and balloons printed with triceratops. The epic soundtrack played from the loudspeakers. It really felt like they were inside a Jurassic Park movie.
Taki's grandmother grabbed his arm as they entered through the enormous themed gate, revealing a giant replica of a T-Rex that roared mechanically. "Oh, my Kobe." She whispered, amazed. Taki smiled. "It moved its head! It moved!" He had never heard her voice so excited. It was like hearing a piece of her childhood reborn, a childhood he knew she never had the chance to truly live.
First, they went on the train ride, passing animatronic dinosaurs that moved so well that even Taki was impressed. Then they went to the interactive show, where a 'scientist' was training a blue velociraptor. At lunch, he bought her a park-themed meal served on a fossil-shaped tray. It was adorable. She took pictures of everything with her old camera. She asked for more pictures when she thought the first one was blurry. Then another, because the sun had changed... Taki was patient with each one. He was always patient with everything that came from her.
"Now, I think it came out good!" She said, raising the camera to show the clearly out of focus photo. Taki smiled as she laughed, lowering the camera. But the next instant, she looked around, confused, as if noticing for the first time the themed restaurant where they were sitting. "How did we.. get here?"
"It was your idea. You wanted to see the dinosaurs up close."
She blinked a few times, seeming to fit that information into its missing place. Then she smiled, as if it were the only thing she could do.
"Happy birthday, grandma."
He said, with an affection that didn't need effort to exist with her.
