Behind blue eyes

Ever since a young age he had always carried himself with a calm demeanor, often mistaken by indifference as he flowed through life with an unrushed slithering swagger while his big blue eyes scanned the world with curious intensity.

His looks also contributed to the misconceptions others might have had of him, never one to seek standing out even though the ink on his face surely made that a hard selling point. He was selfish in a way, doing things just because he felt like it without letting the outside world have much say or agency into his decisions. It was the way he had always lived ever since he left a crumbling home before he had to witness it turn to rubble. He had always been on his own and made his own decisions, and he had learned to embrace the calm solitude that came with that freedom.

But recently things changed when he landed a job as a barman at a newly opened club. The first job he had where he didn't think about quitting after a day or two of mind-numbignly dull work. He felt comfortable behind the counter, surveying the locale and watching people go on about their lives, always enjoying the quiet game of trying to figure strangers out just by what he could read from afar. But that wasn't all, because now he was in a position where people actually came to him, not just asking for drinks but often engaging in conversation, reigniting a spark that he had kept tucked aside.

He wasn't antisocial by any means but he had never sought the camaraderie of a pack, since then it was easier to fool himself into thinking he was alright on his own and he didn't need it to begin with. But as his world opened the lies crumbled, and now that spark was shining bright and he finally felt comfortable opening the gates to his castle and letting the world, and it's peoples, creep into his domain.
