XXI - Something worth celebrating
The familiar sound of the wind as it rustled along the canopy of the trees, causing the palm fronds to wave in their delicate dance, Kiana gingerly opened the lid of the bakery box - a special treat that she ordered to have delivered all the way to Rio from the what was coveted as the best cafe in the world located in her hometown of Paris. The sweet aroma of fresh raspberries was such a nostalgic scent; one that still had the power to make her mouth salivate as if it were the first time she tasted her favorite macarons.
Everything for today had to be perfect. As perfect as the now mature lush tropical gardens that surrounded her aunt and uncle's vacation property - their refuge for the remainder of the year. The table was set, all the treats were laid out in a tantalizing display - a feast for the eyes and the stomach. The stuffed animals, dolls, and teddies in the chairs were placed holders amongst the actual human guests, picked out specifically by the honorable princess of the afternoon.
Kiana placed the raspberry macarons on one of the small porcelain plates and took a step back to admire her work. It was basically written into law that not a single soul touch her cookies. Not her mother, not her father, and certainly not her brother. She barely ever shared them with anyone except for a very lucky soul that later became her husband. For a moment, those very special memories caused a nostalgic smile to curl on her lips. Lost in memories that the curly haired beauty held so close to her heart.
It felt like a lifetime. A family gathering that was so long overdue. And while there were many things to celebrate - winning championships, anniversaries, birthdays, the closing of another year; what Kiana hoped for was that Lia always remember this moment.
The beautiful day, the costumes, the sweet stuffed animals, the raspberry macarons. The silly pictures, laughter, family - All things with love.
