Kamikaze for Kobe
I can't wait for the surfing rounds in the popolympics to start. It's exciting to represent Rio after they welcomed us with open arms, just like the city of Rome has for all the athletes. What an opening ceremony! I've already seen some amazing events, and we just started.
When I hit the waves, Kobe will be on my mind. And not just because I'm in her order. But because I have never surfed before! What better time to try than at the olympics with the biggest monster waves you can find?! That was what I thought, which is why I signed up.
My aunt Rena wrote a song for Festival XXVI called Kamikaze for Kobe. I feel like that song is my anthem for the olympics. I'm putting my life in Kobe's hands. I fly on her wings and go where she leads.
It's not so much fear I feel, but a total rush. I can picture it now. I rush into the ocean with my board, paddling out to sea. I feel the pull of the current as a wave forms and get into a position on my board. The sea rises, and so do I. I'm flying on the waves... hopefully with my feet still attached to the board! When I land it will be with a flourish like a dame of Kobe. Like a soft feather on Kobe's mattress. I hope. If not, no worries. Kobe will send a crab to save me!
