valentine's day.

for someone who had known loneliness for most of his life, it wasn't a special day. he didn't even know how people celebrated it when they had someone they cared about. did he have someone he cared about?

at night when he mindlessly scrolled through social media, he would almost always come across edits of him and Nate hanging out in public. they were always such innocent pictures and videos, but it was unnerving how people seemed to trail them without Storm even realizing they were there. how was this going to work if they were ever able to be together? would there be angry, upset, or disappointed comments?

based on the comments he could already see on these fan edits, there would be those who definitely approved. they already thought that they saw nothing but adoration for Nate in Storm's eyes. he could never ever hide it even when he tried. the way that Nate made him feel was unlike anything he had ever experienced. he was just a nerd who was falling for the boy who was only supposed to be his friend. it was awkward, a little embarrassing, and probably just impossible.

the likelihood that they would ever be together felt... well, it felt like it would never happen.

and there was the fact that he just knew that Nate and Freja probably joked about the shipping while they were alone - sharing laughter about how Storm acted awestruck around Nate. how sad. how pathetic. but he knew. he knew what Nate was like behind closed doors. he knew what the other boy's lips felt like against his own.

those kisses were their secret. and those texts.

the boy's gaze landed on a valentine's day gift ad. he paused, hesitated. unbidden, another image came to his mind:

was Nate with Freja for the holiday? did they share chocolates? and kisses?

he felt a little pang- what was it?

jealousy.

he wished he could be the one.
