The Cost of Not Letting Go
Rome behind me. History towering, silent like the things I never said out loud.
I couldn't be friends with you while you were busy showing off,
Thought I finished the road, turns out I was back at the start.
I dressed the part. Carved out my lane. But no matter how tailored the suit or steady the hand holding the cigarette, there are things that don’t fade memories, regrets, the echo of a name you swore you buried.
I came here alone, hit rock bottom alone, and still couldn’t find you.
We all have that street the one where everything changed. The one we wish we never walked through. But we did. And it marked us.
I faced everything, but never found you.
I'm starting to get used to it, like it was just yesterday.
There’s no loyalty without surrender. I learned that late.
Without surrender, there is no loyalty.
You can stand tall in the night, wear your heartbreak like armor, but some scents linger hers still does.
I wish you never left, baby, your scent is still in my nose.
That street where I saw you… I wish you’d never walked down it.
I wish I had never loved you.
Some nights you don’t win. You just wear the loss well.
