the sweetest peach

Harley rose with the sun that morning, excited for what was to be her 18th birthday. Finally an adult. She had been jealous for years that her older sisters always received more attention than she did. A belief that wasn't entirely true because she got plenty of attention. The attention her sisters received was simply of a different type. She mistakenly thought her age was the reason.

All of the sisters thought of Jackson as their father. He was, in every sense of the word. For most of them, at least. The same wasn't, however, entirely true for the two eldest sisters -- the targets of her jealousy.

Evie had been a teen when their mother had married Jackson. Layla had come to live with them years later, but the same was true for her. All of the younger girls, Harley included, were his true daughters.

He had always jokingly called Harley his favorite little girl to tease the others since she was his firstborn, though she didn't quite understand why the distinction was so important.

She was just a greedy girl who wanted all the attention she got and more. She liked being his favorite, even if he would claim to not actually favor any one daughter over the other. She couldn't, however, help but hope that those sly glances he was always giving Evie would some day turn her way.
