Meeting someone new is like lighting a campfire at the edge of the unknown. Each conversation is a spark, each shared laugh a log added to the fire. You never know how bright it will burn or how long it will last, but you show up anyway, curiosity in hand, ready to see what unfolds.
Life is shaped by connections. The Greeks understood that meaning often comes from engagement, from daring to step beyond the familiar. Socrates reminded us that an unexamined life, or an unexamined encounter, loses much of its value. Psychology adds that every person we meet subtly shapes our minds. They challenge our assumptions, spark new ideas, and sometimes reflect back parts of ourselves we did not realize existed. Meeting new people is an exercise in self-discovery as much as discovering others.
For me, each encounter is settling a campfire before a journey. Some will stay and share stories by the flames. Others will drift away, leaving embers to glow quietly in memory. Every connection leaves its mark. I step forward ready to meet new faces, to listen, to share.
