iv. i can see the lighthouse [dear diary]

Is it too cheesy to write about your boyfriend? Yes, boyfriend. I know, I am as shocked as anyone. The general consensus seems to have been that I'd turn into some shriveled-up, lonely, crazy cat lady—and honestly I might have been one of the strongest believers of this myself. But this year is bringing on a lot of very exciting and unexpected firsts. I'm slow, I know.

I kind of get the hype now. Valentine's, I mean.

In the church we have many Valentines. Like, at least three different ones, depending on how picky you are, all connected to the same date but years apart. I am well acquainted with Saint Valentine of Rome—probably the most famous of the Valentines that a lot of people have heard about—the martyred priest who supported persecuted early Christians and who performed a miracle when he cured his jailer's blind daughter before his execution. Saint Valentine of Terni does not get as many legends and stories about his sacrifice, and the third one is barely mentioned at all.

This year I had my very own Valentine for the first time. A whole day of sunshine, kisses, chocolate, flowers, cards, and endless little dates. I used to scrunch up my nose and complain about how commercialized the day is (out of pure jealousy, of course, nothing religious), but I am most certainly converted now. Give me more Valentine's days, endlessly. With him—because of him ♡
