Slowly she moved her feet in the cool water, quietly looking on at the party still going on from across the pool, savoring the short moment of pause and stillness as she'd slipped away on her own.

The birthday boy in the middle of holding court, entertaining his friends and close ones with some wild tale—so she figured at least, with the expressions and the motions and the laughter carrying across the still water.

Sipping from the glass of mojomojo she'd been holding on to all night, the one that was enough to tint her cheeks a soft pink, she let her eyes wander across the group of people—a little ashamed to admit she'd been scared to approach at first. But now, gradually getting to know them one by one, she was slowly learning that underneath it all, they were just the same as her. Same thoughts, same fears... Just a different expression.

And in one odd turn of events she'd found herself feeling more and more at ease. At home. Like she had somehow, by some weird action against all odds, found somewhere she could belong. Despite the hypocrisy of how her glaring plainness and averageness made her stick out of the crowd like a sore thumb.
