To my partner in crime

I honestly can’t even remember a time when you weren’t in my life. Isn’t that crazy? It’s like we’ve always been side by side, doing everything together. Even when we were younger and got in trouble with Mom and Dad, you were always there, making me laugh. And even now, it feels like nothing’s changed. You’re still the one looking out for me, making sure I’m okay.

Do you remember when you convinced Mom and Dad to get me Elephant? I still don’t know how you did it! I was too shy even to ask, but you? You turned into the most convincing salesperson ever. I swear, you could talk anyone into doing anything you want.

Now, for your birthday, I’ve been thinking. I know how badly you’ve always wanted a hippopotamus. Well, I think it’s finally time you get one. Yep, you totally deserve it. I mean, if anyone should have a hippopotamus, it’s you. You’ve been the best friend anyone could ask for, always making sure I’m happy and always being there when I need you.

So, here’s my plan: I’m going to use those puppy nuclear eyes you taught me on Dad. I’m sure he’s going to say yes. I mean, come on, we covered for him when he forgot to get Mom a gift for her birthday, right? He was lucky he found a store open at midnight that was only selling birthday rings and she is still beaming about it. So, if he can do that, he can totally help us make the hippopotamus thing happen. It’s only fair!

Anyway, I just want you to know how much I love you, and how excited I am for you to be 11. You’re officially a big kid now, which means even more adventures, more laughs, and probably more nights under our hidden fort, writing long lists of why boys have cooties and drool.

Happy Birthday, Gi! You deserve everything in the world, and I hope this year is the best one yet.
